Crowborough is located in the North West of East Sussex in Wealden District. It is surrounded by the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
Part of Crowborough town centre is designated a Conservation Area. Through policy EN19 in the Local Plan, WDC aims to conserve and enhance these areas because of their special architectural or historical interest – WDC
Crowborough Supplementary Planning Guidance by the Crowborough Partnership published March 2001 can be used to supplement this. The town also has approximately 24 listed buildings.
The Ashdown Forest to the West of the town is a designated Special Protection Area (SPA) for the conservation, management and control of particular species of birds. The Forest also has three Special Areas of Conservation (SACs).
There are several Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs) to the North-West of the town, the closest being Bream Wood, and parts of the Ashdown Forest.
The town has approximately 52 Public Footpaths[11], 9 Public Bridleways[12], and 1 Road Used as a Public Path[13].
