Community
Population:
-
The number of residents in the town in 2001
was 19,974. Of this number, 19.5% of the population were of
pensionable age (60/65) and 20% were aged 0-15. 1604 people were
aged 75 and over, 42% of these were living alone.[14]

The number of people in Wealden
District increased by 7% between
1991-2001.1
-
The percentage of people in 2001 who
were Single (never married), married or divorced was very similar
to the average for the District, though the percentage of people
widowed or re-married was very slightly lower in the town than
the District average.1

The percentage of the population in
single-person households was 26% which is nearly exactly the same
as the average for Wealden District.1
-
The average house price in the District in
June 2004 was £236,244. According to findaproperty.co.uk,
based on the previous three months advertised prices, a 2 bedroom
house would cost £173,780, and a four bedroom house would
cost £407,718 (Feb 2005).

There are currently 580 applicants on the
District Council’s Housing Register who have listed
Crowborough as one of the parishes which they would like to live
in. They are broken down into groups in the table

In the Indices of Deprivation 2004 (which
ranks according to income, employment, health and disability,
education skills and training, barriers to housing and services,
living environment, crime, income deprivation affecting children,
and income deprivation affecting older people) part of
Crowborough East ward ranked lowest in the whole town.
Part of Crowborough North ward ranked highest
(in place 32216 out of 32482 across England). Particularly low
rankings in terms of barriers to housing and services, and
education skills and training were again found in part of
Crowborough East ward, however the ranking for all parts of
Crowborough were low for this compared to the other
indicators.

unclear whether private or NHS, there are NHS dental practices,
and there are 3 opticians;

Hospital is a community hospital (24 general medical beds), with
X-ray department, minor injuries department, Physiotherapy
department, Maternity (Crowborough Birthing unit), Outpatients
department, and a day centre for the elderly;

Fire Station with 13 full time and 9 retained
staff;

Town Hall, with Tourist information centre
located inside

The Citizens Advice Bureau is open on
weekdays between 9.30 and 3pm;

The main Post Office is in Green Lane, and
